Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon is one of the most amazing natural wonders of Iceland. Experience a day full of glaciers, icebergs and waterfalls at Iceland´s jewel.
THE ULTIMATE DAY TOUR!
Experience an adventure like no other on our fun-packed day tour of Iceland’s sensational South Coast & Glacier Lagoon, a magical dreamland of magnificent must-see places!
You’ll explore two towering waterfalls, soak in the stunning views at the world-famous Glacier Lagoon at Jökulsárlón, and take an unforgettable stroll amongst glittering iceberg fragments on the mesmerizing Diamond Beach.
Those are the star attractions, but there’s so much more to enjoy on this thrilling tour! Starting with a convenient pick-up in the city, sit back and take in the marvelous views as we drive over the Blue Mountains to the fertile farmlands that line Route 1 on the South Coast.
The famous “Ring Road” circles the country, and after a pit stop for coffee and snacks at the little town of Hvolsvöllur, it will lead us directly to Seljalandsfoss.
This beautiful 60-meter waterfall tumbles off Eyjafjallajökull, the famous volcano which stopped all the planes in 2010! This waterfall has a bonus feature - you can walk around it if you want, so long as the path isn’t too slippery!
Another spectacular 60-meter waterfall called Skógafoss (the Forest Falls) is nearby. There aren’t any trees left here now - the early Vikings chopped them all down!
You might have seen this more powerful cascade in Hollywood films, TV shows, or music videos, but nothing will prepare you for this majestic sight when you see it! If it’s sunny, you’ll see rainbows rising high in the sky!
We’ll stop for lunch at the charming coastal village of Vík, the southernmost point in Iceland. You’ll see the towering Reynisdrangar standing offshore and a fairytale church high on a hill overlooking the area.
Iceland is famous as the “Land of Fire and Ice,” and glaciers cover a tenth of the country. As we drive along the South Coast, you’ll see these vast tongues of ice reaching down towards the sea from the mountains.
When the spring thaw begins, gigantic icebergs “calve” into glacial lagoons before floating out to sea.
Jökulsárlón stands right next to the Ring Road, which makes it easy for you to have the unforgettable thrill of seeing this stunning place on our South Coast and Glacier Lagoon tour.
Once the icebergs have calved from the glacier’s edge, the frozen blue and white fragments float serenely around the dazzling Glacier Lagoon. Tugged by the tides from one side to another, they’re slowly sculpted into beautiful shapes by the wind.
Wherever you look, you’ll be amazed by the constantly changing scene. During the summer, you can take an optional boat tour around the lagoon for a closer look.
Sometimes the bergs topple over with a mighty crash, sending waves around the lagoon! Look for seals, too - they like to bask in the sun here!
Nearby is the astonishing Diamond Beach. Iceberg fragments lie scattered on a dramatic black sand beach like jewels on a satin cushion, slowly carved into fantastic shapes by fierce winds and the Atlantic waves.
On our return journey to Reykjavík, we’ll also visit Fjallsárlón. It’s a little smaller than the Glacier Lagoon, but it offers a clearer view of the glacier edge, and you might be lucky enough to witness a calving event there!
Tours depart from the Reykjavik Terminal located at Skógarhlíð 10. Please be sure to arrive 15 minutes prior to departure along with a printed or digital copy of your ticket/voucher.

The Seljalandsfoss waterfall is just one of the many highlight of this trip, as you can walk along and behind this waterfall ,offering a completely unique perspective; just be sure to bring a rain jacket! During the short days of winter as you may be arriving in the evening, this waterfall is lit up to still give you a chance to capture the perfect regardless of the amount of sunlight.
Next we will stop at the powerful 65-meter-tall Skógafoss Waterfall where a short walk up a flight of steps will reveal one of Iceland´s most scenic views of glaciers, volcanoes and black sandy beaches. With viewpoints both above and directly next to the waterfall, photographers will have plenty of chances to capture that unique shot.
The quaint town of Vík is Iceland's southernmost town with a traditional Icelandic church overlooking the ocean and the three trolls of the black sand beach. At this stop, you will have a chance to grab some lunch & use the restroom, explore the town, spend time at the beach, or do some souvenir shopping at Icewear's outlet store.
Perhaps one of the most stunning places in all of Iceland, the Glacier Lagoon Jökulsárlón stands right next to the Ring Road. Icebergs that have calved from the edge of the glacier float peacefully in the waters and sometimes seals can be seen in the lagoon as well.
The icebergs float down from the lagoon towards the sea and some of them become stranded on the black sand beach, creating a truly breathtaking spectacle.
This lagoon is smaller, and quieter, than the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. It does however offer a clearer view of the glacier edge.
