The summer is the best time to experience the birds and wildlife of the bay and islands just outside Reykjavík City. Puffins, auks, gannets and an incredible variety of other sea birds dominate the skies and sea cliffs just a few minutes sailing from the Old Harbour.
But that´s not all, this tour is operated in our custom made RIB boats. They are specially designed to get you as close as possible to the islands and when possible we can switch the engines off to give the birds (and you) some peace and quiet to enjoy nature. During the tour your guide and captain will tell you interesting facts and tales about the puffins and the surroundings.
Our RIBs are also the fastest boats in the harbour, meaning that on a short tour you will spend the majority of your time with the birds.

Bring with you: Dress according to weather. In Iceland it is always wise to dress in warm and waterproof clothes. Weather changes are swift so expect the unexpected. Bring a waterproof jacket and pants, headwear and gloves. Good outdoor shoes are recommended.*
Hotel pick up: Not available for this specific tour due to the early departure time. Please keep in mind that 90% of the hotels in Reykjavík are within a 5-minute walk of our office at the Old Harbour. All hotels in zipcode 101 are within an easy morning walk.
Duration: Approximately 1 hour.
* If you don’t have warm clothing we will supply you with a very warm overall and more gear, as well as having some sweaters to lend.

The tour starts and ends by our ticket office at the Reykjavík's Old Harbour. Here you arrive 30 minutes prior to the departure to get ready for the tour. This involves signing a safety waiver, and putting on our incredibly fashionable warm overalls & all necessary safety equipment. The guide then walks you down to the boat which is docked at the Harbour. There are very few things that will beat the experience of seeing the puffins and other bird-life up close as you can get at sea level from our RIB boats.
We visit the puffins in their natural habitat, at the Islands of Akurey, Engey or Lundey just outside of Reykjavík. The journey here is a short one, and we spend around 50 minutes with the Puffins, often going to 2 of the three islands with Puffins. Our experienced Captains know the best vantage spots to get the best view of them. Puffins, auks, gannets and an incredible variety of other sea birds dominate the skies and sea cliffs just a few minutes sailing from the Old Harbour. Our RIB's are fast and small so we get you extra close and extra quickly out to the islands!
Finally, after a great adventure at sea, we head back to the harbour! We arrive approximately one hour after the tour start time. Then it‘s time to get out of your warm overalls and recuperate in our service center. We have WCs and information available inside so you can plan your next steps in Reykjavík. Be sure to check we have your correct email so we can send you any photos (if taken) that the guide took on your tour!
Our tours are dependent on weather and sea conditions so sometimes we need to cancel this tour due to winds in the main whale habitat area. Make sure to provide us with your contact details upon booking so we can contact you as soon as possible regarding any changes to your tour!
Dress warmly for our northern ocean, so if you have it, bring warm outdoor clothing like a wool or fleece sweater, some warm headgear and gloves. Sturdy shoes are recommended. And of course bring your camera!
