Volg de noord-atlantische kustlijn vanaf Reykjavik langs het wonderbaarlijke gebied met vulkanen en gletsjers. Loop achter de watersluier van de waterval Seljalandsfoss en bekijk de waterval Skógafoss van boven. In de avonduren wordt je een noorderlicht-jager. Het noorderlicht is een spectaculair, natuurlijk fenomeen dat ons eraan herinnert hoe buitengewoon onze planeet eigenlijk is. Het is het soort ervaring dat maakt dat we het meer dan de moeite waard vinden om het koude arctische winterweer te trotseren.

Volg de zuidkust langs de open Atlantische Oceaan vanaf Reykjavik naar het prachtige gebied van vulkanen en gletsjers. Loop achter de donderende watersluier van de waterval Seljalandsfoss en geniet van de ongelofelijk mooie uitzichten vanaf de top van de waterval Skógar. Betreed het wereldberoemde zwarte-zand-strand Reynisfjara en bezoek het charmante kustdorp Vík.
Deze excursie begint met een rit door de lava velden, dicht bij het actieve vulkanische gebergte Hengill en vandaar naar de vruchtbare landbouwgebieden aan de kust. Op heldere dagen is de vulkaan Hekla zichtbaar en in de verte domineert de met eeuwige sneeuw overdekte vulkaan Eyjafjallajökull over de kustgebieden. Slechts een paar kilometer van de kust en duidelijk zichtbaar zijn de vulkanische Westman Eilanden.
Onze eerste stop is bij de 60 metere hoge waterval Seljalandsfoss, beroemd vanwege het verborgen pad achter en rondom de waterval. Daarna stoppen we bij de krachtige waterval Skógafoss waar na een korte wandeling omhoog één van IJslands mooiste scenarios wordt geopenbaard.
We stoppen bij de gletsjer Sólheimajökull op onze weg naar het zwarte-zand-strand Reynisfjara. Hier zien we de krachtige golven van de Atlantische Oceaan op het zwarte zand beuken. De zuilvormige basalt-rotsformaties in de zee en de bijzonder gevormde grotten van basaltzuilen zijn adembenemend indrukwekkend.
Onze laatste stop is in Vík. Dit dorp is het meest zuidelijk gelegen dorp op IJsland, gelegen aan de hoofdweg rond het eiland. Ondanks het feit dat het dorp slechts 291 inwoners telt, is het de grootste nederzetting op een afstand van 70 km.
In de avonduren begint de zoektocht naar het noorderlicht, als de weersomstandigheden het toelaten. Voor velen is de Aurora Borealisde reden om in de winter IJsland te bezoeken. De Aurora Borealis is een wonderbaarlijk mysterieus en magisch fenomeen wat niemand die het gezien heeft zal vergeten.
Kort gezegd, niets typeert de ijslandse winter beter dan de zoektocht naar het noorderlicht.
Het noorderlicht is het gevolg van krachtige zonnestormen en is alleen zichtbaar aan een heldere winter hemel. Onze team van deskundigen heeft jarenlange ervaring in het analyseren van weerspatronen. Elke dag worden er voorspellingen gemaakt voor de bewolking en de kans op de aanwezigheid van de Aurora Borealis. We gaan niet op pad als we niet zeker weten dat we een goede kans hebben om het noorderlicht te zien. De kans op slagen is daarom groot.
Alle noorderlicht excursies worden geleid door een van onze speciaal getrainde noorderlicht-gidsen die zowel deskundig zijn als behulpzaam. Ze geven ook informatie over het maken van foto’s van dit wonderbaarlijke, natuurlijke fenomeen. Om de Aurora Borealis te zien is het noodzakelijk om buiten te zijn in de ijslandse winter en het is daarom belangrijk om warm gekleed te zijn. Alhoewel, geen zorgen, wij zijn het enige reisbureau dat ultra-warme jassen verhuurt op onze excursies.

Meenemen: Kleding naar weersomstandigheden. Het is altijd verstandig op IJsland om warme, waterafstotende kleding aan te trekken. De weersomstandigheden kunnen snel veranderen, dus houd daar rekening mee. Neem een jas en broek van waterafstotend materiaal mee, evenals een muts en handschoenen. Het wordt aanbevolen om goede terrein-schoenen aan te hebben.
Duur: In totaal ongeveer 13 uren inclusief een ongeveer 3 uur durende zoektocht naar het noorderlicht.
*De noorderlicht excursie is beschikbaar van 1 oktober tot 31 maart, dagelijks om 21.00 uur. Van 1 september tot 30 september & 1 april tot 15 april, dagelijks om 22.00 uur.

Sólheimajökull Glacier
Sólheimajökull Glacier is the photographers delight.
The Solheim Glacier is a magnificent and humbling site to behold. As you walk from the parking lot up the gravel path leading the the face of this glacial tongue extending from Myrdalsjökull, you will witness the glacial bed upon which the Solheimajökull sat not more than 50 years ago. Here you can also see beautiful icebergs revealing deep blue colors that have broken away from the glacier and floated down the lagoon.
Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach
Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, another picturesque spot. There the waves crash on the black sands, the jagged basalt sea stacks and the huge basalt column cave are sight not soon forgotten.
This one of the most famous and most visited sites in all of Iceland. Marvel at the unique volcanic black sand beach of Reyisfjara with rising basalt columns, a large basalt stone cave which has been battered by heavy oceanic waves.
There is a cafe located at Reynisfjara where you can buy some snack or use the restrooms if needed.
Vík í Mýrdal
This is Iceland's southern most town with beautiful houses under the church upon a hill. There is a great view of the three trolls out in the ocean along with a second black sand beach.
The quaint town of Vík is Iceland's southernmost town with a traditional Icelandic church overlooking the ocean and the three trolls of the black sand beach. At this stop you will have a chance to grab some lunch & use the restroom, explore the town, spend time at the beach, or do some souvenir shopping at Icewear's outlet store. This is the farthest point along the south coast tour, from here we will head back in the direction of Reykjavik.
Skógafoss Waterfall
The powerfull Skógafoss waterfall where a short walk up a flight of stairs will reveal one of Iceland´s most scenic views, glaciers, volcanoes and black sand beaches.
Along the return trip to Reykjavik, we will stop at the powerful 65 meter tall Skógafoss Waterfall where a short walk up a flight of steps will reveal one of Iceland´s most scenic views of glaciers, volcanoes and black sandy beaches. With viewpoints both above and directly next to the waterfall, photographers will have plenty of chances to capture that unique shot.
Seljalandsfoss
Seljalandsfoss waterfall, famous for the hidden pathway behind and around it.
The Seljalandsfoss waterfall is for many guests the highlight of this trip, as you can walk along and behind this waterfall offering a completely unique perspective; just be sure to bring a rain jacket! From here we will spend about 1.5hrs in the coach returning to Reykjavik.
Northern Lights Hunt
In the evening after returning to Reykjavik, you will head out into the night to look for the elusive aurora borealis.
