Segui la fascia costiera Nord Atlantica da Reykjavík fino alla meravigliosa terra glaciale e vulcanica che è la costa sud dell’Islanda. Cammina dietro allo scrosciante velo d’acqua della cascata di Seljalandsfoss, ammira la visuale incredibile dalla cima della cascata di Skógafoss, esplora la spiaggia di sabbia nera a Reynisfjara e visita l’incantevole villaggio costiero di Vík.
Il tour inizia attraversando campi di lava, presso il vulcano attivo di Hengill e poi giù verso le rigogliose pianure costiere. Con il bel tempo potrai ammirare il Vulcano Hekla e vedrai innalzarsi drammaticamente dai rilievi costieri ai suoi piedi il famoso Vulcano Eyjafjalljökull, coperto da una calotta di ghiaccio. Pochi chilometri al largo potrai scorgere le Isole Vestman, un arcipelago di circa 15 isole, una delle quali abitata.
La nostra prima fermata è alla cascata di Seljalandsfoss, famosa per il sentiero nascosto dietro all’imponente salto di 60 metri. Ci fermeremo poi alla poderosa cascata di Skógafoss dove una breve salita vi condurrà su una piattaforma dalla quale potrete ammirare una delle visuali più memorabile che l’Islanda possa offrire, con ghiacciai, vulcani e deserti di sabbia nera.
Il ghiacciaio di Sólheimajökull è il sogno di ogni fotografo, e ci fermeremo qui sulla strada per la spiaggia di sabbia nera di Reynisfjara, un’altra area molto drammatico. Le potenti onde atlantiche che si infrangono sulla costa, i torreggianti faraglioni e la spettacolare grotta di colonne in basalto sono una vista che toglie il fiato. L’ultima fermata sarà Vík. Il paese di Vík è il più meridionale in Islanda, a ridosso della Strada 1 che circonda l’isola. A dispetto delle dimensioni (291 abitanti) è il più grande insediamento nel raggio di 70 km. A questo punto faremo ritorno a Reykjavik.
In serata, tempo permettendo, ci dirigeremo a caccia di aurore boreali!. Per molti, il vedere le aurore boreali è la ragione principale per visitare la nostra isola settentrionale nel cuore dell’inverno. L’aurora è un fenomeno misterioso e stupefacente, quasi magico, ed è difficile da dimenticare una volta osservato. In parole povere, niente caratterizza l’inverno islandese nell’immaginario, come l’idea di andare a caccia di aurore.
Il risultato di potenti tempeste solari, le aurore boreali richiedono cieli limpidi per poter essere apprezzate. Ma state tranquilli, il nostro team di esperti ha alle spalle decenni di esperienza di analisi degli sviluppi del tempo atmosferico. Visioniamo attentamente con cadenza giornaliera le previsioni relativa alla copertura di nuvole, e le previsioni sull’attività solare. Non partiamo mai senza avere una ragionevole certezza di poter ammirare qualcosa. Questo implica un alto tasso di successi.

Cercare le aurore significa dover uscire all’aperto nell’inverno islandese, ragion per cui è fondamentale vestirsi caldi. Sólheimajökull Glacier
Sólheimajökull Glacier is the photographers delight.
The Solheim Glacier is a magnificent and humbling site to behold. As you walk from the parking lot up the gravel path leading the the face of this glacial tongue extending from Myrdalsjökull, you will witness the glacial bed upon which the Solheimajökull sat not more than 50 years ago. Here you can also see beautiful icebergs revealing deep blue colors that have broken away from the glacier and floated down the lagoon.
Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach
Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, another picturesque spot. There the waves crash on the black sands, the jagged basalt sea stacks and the huge basalt column cave are sight not soon forgotten.
This one of the most famous and most visited sites in all of Iceland. Marvel at the unique volcanic black sand beach of Reyisfjara with rising basalt columns, a large basalt stone cave which has been battered by heavy oceanic waves.
There is a cafe located at Reynisfjara where you can buy some snack or use the restrooms if needed.
Vík í Mýrdal
This is Iceland's southern most town with beautiful houses under the church upon a hill. There is a great view of the three trolls out in the ocean along with a second black sand beach.
The quaint town of Vík is Iceland's southernmost town with a traditional Icelandic church overlooking the ocean and the three trolls of the black sand beach. At this stop you will have a chance to grab some lunch & use the restroom, explore the town, spend time at the beach, or do some souvenir shopping at Icewear's outlet store. This is the farthest point along the south coast tour, from here we will head back in the direction of Reykjavik.
Skógafoss Waterfall
The powerfull Skógafoss waterfall where a short walk up a flight of stairs will reveal one of Iceland´s most scenic views, glaciers, volcanoes and black sand beaches.
Along the return trip to Reykjavik, we will stop at the powerful 65 meter tall Skógafoss Waterfall where a short walk up a flight of steps will reveal one of Iceland´s most scenic views of glaciers, volcanoes and black sandy beaches. With viewpoints both above and directly next to the waterfall, photographers will have plenty of chances to capture that unique shot.
Seljalandsfoss
Seljalandsfoss waterfall, famous for the hidden pathway behind and around it.
The Seljalandsfoss waterfall is for many guests the highlight of this trip, as you can walk along and behind this waterfall offering a completely unique perspective; just be sure to bring a rain jacket! From here we will spend about 1.5hrs in the coach returning to Reykjavik.
Northern Lights Hunt
In the evening after returning to Reykjavik, you will head out into the night to look for the elusive aurora borealis.
