Explore the Highlands
Landmannalaugar is a place loved by most Icelanders. The mountains up in the highlands are surreal, each of them are of different colours, tones and shapes. Oh, the mountains have been awake for a long time, and they could share with us countless stories were they able to speak: stories of days past, and most likely of the good times people have spent enjoying the warm water of the natural hot spring, that is situated there in the middle of all the beauty.
We will begin our day early, departing from Reykjavík and heading East. On our way to the highlands we will drive by the roots of Mt. Hekla, which is one of Iceland’s most active volcanoes, erupting roughly every 10 years. We will then go deeper into the country and see colourful rhyolite mountains and an expansive lava field of Laugarhraun. Once we have arrived in Landmannalaugar, after an eventful drive, you will have 6 hours to do whatever you want: hike and/or soak in the geothermal pool.
Our guide will assist you, and recommend good hiking trails. Hiking maps are also sold on the bus. Please note that Icelanders never go anywhere without bringing a bathing suit. So don’t forget to bring a towel and bathing suit!
Please note that you can join the tour from Hella, the bus departs from Hella at 9:10. However, all passengers who want to start from Hella to Landmannalaugar need to book 24 hours before departure. We highly recommend bringing a packed lunch and snacks as there is not much selection of food up in the highlands.
A day in Landmannalaugar is a place that is without a doubt worthy of being on your bucket list.
