Ice Cave & Lava Cave: Dynamic Duo

We leave early from Reykjavík for our Langjökull Glacier Ice Cave and Víðgelmir Lava Cave adventure!

You soon learn that in Iceland everything is possible as you step aboard one of the huge specially-modified monster trucks and drive up the glacier to the ice cave. Before you know it you find yourself standing on top of an ice cap and about to begin your descent down below the surface of glacier to explore what lies beneath.

The ice tunnel or ice cave is a man made glacier cave high up in the remote highlands of Iceland. Your guide will explain how global warming has begun to affect the glacial environment and take you on a magical journey deep within the glacier. You get to see stunning blue glacier ice and wonderful glacier formations.

The glacier is in constant motion and we can witness that movement of nature itself firsthand. The temperature inside the glacier is usually around zero degrees Celsius or 32 Fahrenheit and until very recently what lay beneath the surface of Langjökull was a mystery.

After our ice cave tour we get back on board the glacier truck and head back down. We eat lunch at Hotel Húsafell and then go on to explore the mightiest lava cave in Iceland, Víðgelmir.

Your cave guide will show and explain the amazing features of the cave, e.g. the  wonderful colours, lava stalactites and stalagmites etc. The unique wooden walkway with railings and remotely operated lighting make this an easy tour for almost anyone.

This tour is family friendly and ideal for kids. After our adventures we take a scenic route back to Reykjavík.

Langjökull

Langjökull Glacier is the second biggest glacier in Iceland. Langjökull is the home of the unique glacier cave and a paradise for snowmobile and super-jeep lovers. Its volume is 195 km³ and the ice is up to 580 m (1,900 ft) thick. The highest point of the ice cap is about 1,450 m (4,760 ft) above sea level.

"Reykjavik Sightseeing"

We took the 8 hour bus trip to see as much as we could in a short period of time. The bus was modern and comfortable. The tour guide was informative and we saw some very different landscapes. Parts of Iceland are unique and there are opportunities for awesome pictures. A favourite was watching the Geyser erupt every 8-10 minutes. Very interesting.

"South coast classic"

Just got back from the tour! We went on a large bus that was in pristine condition and always at a comfortable temperature. Though large, the tour felt more intimate than other large bus tours we had been on. The group may have been smaller and both the guide and driver reached out and connected with everyone on the tour. Both answered questions and were very happy to chat about Iceland and Icelandic culture. The audio guides were a nice addition

"Wonderful waterfall tour"

We did the southern Iceland tour that included the glacier hike and visiting three waterfalls. The bus was smaller than other companies, but had free wifi and individual tablets with information about various sights along the way. Our guide was excellent and went with us through a stream into the hidden waterfall area. He also took many pictures of us. I would highly recommend this company and would book them again.
